1. When is a permit needed?

Basically, a permit is needed anytime something is to be altered that is regulated by code. The actual wording states a permit is needed to “construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change” a building or “erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove convert or replace” anything that has an electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system.
