Central Colorado Climate Coalition hosted an Earth Day celebration Friday in Salida that included a community cleanup, a parade and activities and entertainment in Riverside Park.

The community riverfront cleanup kicked off the event before the noon Parade of the Species down F Street from Alpine Park to Riverside Park. Many parade participants wore costumes and masks representing a variety of animals, including endangered species, from moths to giraffes.

A festival followed at Riverside Park with more than a dozen booths offering environmentally friendly activities and services, plus performances by River Tribe Drum & Dance and Salida Circus.

Friday’s event was the first Earth Day celebration in Salida in two years due to the pandemic.
