As we’re in the midst of the longest nights of the year, now is a great time to get out and see how Salidans have decorated their homes with holiday lights.
Former city councilman Mike Bowers and former state representative Jim Wilson have an ongoing competition on Wood Avenue off Oak Street, with Wilson taking the lead this year.
Several houses on Park Avenue on the east side of town have bright decorations, while Poncha Boulevard on the west side has similarly brilliant displays.
Driving up and down D and E streets, especially between Sixth and Seventh, will provide viewers with some joyful displays.
F Street, as one of the main streets into the downtown area, is filled with a variety of holiday celebrations.
G and I streets have some spectacular displays.
Crestone Avenue, along the mesa next to the golf course, also has some nice Christmas decorations.
The biggest display in the area, besides Christmas Mountain USA, is the Vista Circle home of Bruce and Dovie Gross, which has lights synchronized to music broadcast over the radio.
To view the house, take CR 140 west, turn right on CR 141, which curves around to become Ouray Avenue. Turn right off Ouray onto Spruce Street, which curves around to become Cochetopa Avenue. Turn right onto Vista Circle, where the house is easily found at the end.
The Gross family is again collecting food for local food pantries.
