Cara Russell, former Leadville/Lake County Chamber of Commerce director, has died after a Denver shooting yesterday afternoon, according to reporting from Denver’s CBS4 that has been confirmed by local sources.
According to the Denver police, a man walked into The Alliance Center at 1536 Wynkoop just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and shot Russell, 52, multiple times before committing suicide. 
 
The shooter is reported by CBS4 and local sources to be her husband, Mickey Russell.
 
In a press conference this morning Denver police said Cara Russell, had filed for divorce in April from the shooter and had filed a protective order in 2013.
 
Cara Russell stepped down from her director position in March to begin a new job as the executive director of the Colorado Recycling Association.
 
Cara Russell was also a former mayor of Buena Vista. 
 
She was in her office at the time of the shooting.
