Annie Hughes

Annie Hughes, 18, a Buena Vista High School senior, is the student of the week. Annie is a new student at Buena Vista High School this year, and she is the daughter of Joy and Doug Moser.

Annie has appreciated the warm welcome she has received at her new high school. Active as a varsity state-level runner since her freshman year, Annie has been able to continue her passion for cross country and track at BVHS. Annie was elected as the cross country team captain this fall. The team was able to compete at the state level, where Annie placed second.

Throughout her high school running career, Annie has helped coach grade school and middle school runners who competed on league teams.

Annie is a member of DECA, a business organization for high school students. She participated in regional competitions for this organization and was selected to present a business plan that she developed for a running store at a DECA event in Colorado Springs. This semester, Annie

enjoys a business-related internship at a local coffee shop.

Annie is a member of the National Art Honor Society and is currently the secretary of this organization. Annie is also an honors student at BVHS, where she is taking various AP and college-level classes.

After graduation, Annie will be attending Adams State University in Alamosa. She plans to major in business and has been recruited to run cross country and track as a scholarship athlete.

Annie's Spanish teacher remarked, "Annie's dedication and strength of character will certainly take her far in life. She will be an exceptional student athlete, a compassionate friend to all and a successful individual in her chosen field."
