Beverley and John King of Howard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 9, 2016.
They were married April 9, 1966, in New Zealand.
The couple met in Fairplay when she stopped for an expected overnight stay while touring the USA by Greyhound bus in late 1965.
He was a native Salidan who was then employed by the State Water Department and was an avid mineral collector.
After 2 weeks they became engaged and a few months later he followed her to her home in New Zealand for their wedding.
During the past 50 years they have made many visits “Down Under,” taking Americans to tour the country for a month at a time, staying with local Kiwi residents and viewing the beauty of the island country.
Their permanent home for the past 40 years has been Howard, where they enjoy their garden each summer and still collect minerals throughout Colorado.
