Hope Bondurant competes in the shot put

Cotopaxi High School sophomore Hope Bondurant competes in the shot put May 14 at the Monte Vista Last Chance Meet. Bondurant placed second at the meet. She qualified for the state track meet at 32 feet, 6 inches and is ranked eighth in 1A.

Five athletes from the Cotopaxi High School track and field team qualified for the state track meet May 19-21 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.

Pirates who will compete at state are sophomore Hope Bondurant, the only girl from Cotopaxi, freshman Arlo Garner, sophomores Kurt and Owen Voll and junior Wyatt Tezak.

Rankings are for the 1A state meet.

In 1A the top nine in sprint running events qualify for state, the top 10 in field events qualify, and the distance events qualify the top 12.

Bondurant qualified in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 6 inches and is ranked eighth.

Kurt Voll qualified in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 6.39 seconds and is ranked ninth.

Tezak qualified in the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, 7 inches and is ranked fifth. Tezak also qualified in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches and is ranked seventh.

The boys’ 4x400 relay team qualified with a time of 3:45.84 and is ranked eighth. Tezak, Kurt and Owen Voll and Garner make up the relay team.

The Pirates will compete in the triple jump, shot put and 800-meter run Friday. Saturday the Pirates will compete in the high jump and boys’ 4x400 relay.
