The Cotopaxi High School track team qualified in two events for the Class 1A State Track Meet and will send five athletes today to compete in Jefferson County.

The Pirates’ girls’ 4x800-meter relay team qualified, and senior Brittany Tezak made the state meet as an individual in the triple jump.

Tezak, fellow senior Kayla Sawyer, junior Caitlyn Cole and freshman Hope Bondurant represent the relay team. This is the fourth consecutive year the girls’ 4x800 team has qualified for state.

Pirates assistant coach Amber Canterbury said the relay team ranked fifth with a time of 11 minutes. In triple jump, Tezak ranked fifth in 1A this year with a distance of 30 feet, 8½ inches.

The girls’ 4x400 relay was one spot away from making state, and Canterbury said other athletes just missed the mark of qualifying for state this season. Canterbury added the team did well this year, and she already looks forward to great things next season

The Pirates will compete Friday with the triple jump at 12:30 p.m. and the 4x800 relay at 2:35 p.m.
