Two Salida City Council candidates have backed out of the upcoming debate hosted by League of Women Voters of Chaffee County.

After Councilman Mike Bowers and council candidate Bob Gleason decided they won’t participate, the League’s Oct. 12 debate will feature candidates for only two positions – one for the school board and the other for Salida’s mayoral race.

The candidate in the third council race, Rusty Granzella, is running unopposed.

Bowers and Gleason both said they won’t join the debate because of the potential for bias.
