The Salida Fire Department responds to a report of a ruptured gas line Friday at 304 Palmer St., which caused one square block to be evacuated for public safety. The fire department got the page at 1:22 p.m. and upon arriving began monitoring the atmosphere, leading to the evacuations, Erin Kelley, fire department administrative coordinator, said. Eventually, Atmos Energy secured the ruptured line, and evacuees were allowed to return to their homes at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Salida Police Department, Chaffee County EMS and Chaffee County Fire Protection District also responded.
