The Salida Board of Education accepted the resignation of board President Kyle Earhart from the board Tuesday morning at a special board meeting.

Earhart’s resignation is effective immediately.

The board then unanimously approved the nomination of Jennifer Visitacion to serve as board president and Joe Smith to serve as vice president.

Visitacion said she appreciates all Earhart has done in his role on the board and respected his decision.

“I am happy to serve the community in this way and will do my best,” she said.

As a result of Earhart’s departure, the board is seeking someone to fill his vacant seat until the November election.

November’s elected successor will serve out the remainder of Earhart’s term, which is up in 2021.

Those interested in filling the seat in the interim are asked to send the board a letter with a statement of interest and qualifications by 4 p.m. June 20.

The board will interview prospective candidates June 27 during a public meeting.

Earhart said of his departure that it’s been a very productive 5½ years, but it’s time.

“I have great confidence in the board moving forward. It’s a superb board,” he said.

Serving on the school board “has been an honor and a privilege, especially the last three years as board president,” he added.

To be eligible for appointment to the board, a candidate must be a registered elector of the school district and a resident of director District 5.
