The Book Haven owner Jessie Smith works at the store at 109 N F St. Prospective customers don’t have to go to the physical location anymore, because The Book Haven now has an online store.

The Book Haven owners Jessie and Josh Smith have a running joke that people who come into the store and comment on how “cute” it is rarely buy anything.

They’re hoping their new online store, which launched about two weeks ago, can help those people find something they’re interested in.

With the new online store, customers can see all the inventory at the warehouse The Book Haven orders from, not just what’s in the store. They can also preorder books and audiobooks.

Books can be shipped either to the store or directly to a customer’s home, and customers can either pay online or at the store. Jessie Smith said the store gets the same commission from the online store as in-store purchases.

Currently customers pay for shipping, but Smith said she’s still playing around with different shipping payment models.

The Book Haven gets a lot of special orders, she said, and she wondered if adding an online component would grow that part of the business.

Smith said they also get a number of out-of-towners wanting to buy gift cards for people who live here, which they can now do online.

She said they’re not sure whether they will start offering e-books.

“I want to make it as convenient as possible for people,” she said.
