Starpoint raised about $15,000 at its annual Gathering in Gratitude fundraiser Friday at Salida SteamPlant.

The event featured a silent auction, appetizers and a musical performance, “Explosion of Music,” by the Salida Melody Makers, composed of Starpoint consumers.

Linda Maltas sang a solo of “What a Wonderful World” and Charlie Ross sang “Healing Begins,” made popular by Tenth Avenue North.

Following the soloists the Salida Melody Makers sang several folk songs, including “Puff the Magic Dragon” by Peter, Paul and Mary, “If I Had a Hammer” by Pete Seeger, “Blowin’ in the Wind,” by Bob Dylan and “Country Roads” by John Denver.

The performance ended with a demonstration of basketball tricks by Michael Gauther.

The consumers really look forward to the annual event, Bill Davis, Starpoint’s Salida director, said.

Bob Arnold, Starpoint CEO, of Cañon City, told attendees he was grateful to the performers in the band that accompanied the singers and was especially thankful for the community members who attended.

The event is a major source of funding for the nonprofit organization that provides services for adults with developmental disabilities.

Arnold said he appreciated the turnout to support Starpoint.
