Diane R. Patten, 69, of Somerset was identified as the driver of the 2010 Nissan Murano that hit a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle ridden by Travis A. York, 61, and Linda York, 59, of Elwood, Indiana, Tuesday afternoon at the summit of Monarch Pass.

Colorado State Patrol reported Patten was driving eastbound on U.S. 50 on Monarch Pass and Travis York was driving westbound when Patten crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the motorcycle at about mile marker 200 on the Chaffee County side of the pass.

The Yorks were ejected upon impact.

Travis York was pronounced dead at the scene.

Linda York was initially taken to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medica Center in Salida, then later transported by Flight for Life to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, where she was pronounced dead.

The couple were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Patten also suffered serious injuries and was transferred from HRRMC to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, although Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said drugs and/or alcohol are suspected as possible contributing factors.

Charges have not yet been filed pending conclusion of the CSP investigation.
