Monarch Mountain offers free skiing

by Jason Starr
Mail Staff Writer

Monarch Mountain will offer free skiing to all Monday in its second lift ticket give-away in two years.

Free ski day last year was Feb. 13.

"We are a pretty low key family type ski area and we feel it's important to offer a great value and to keep new people coming into our sport.

"And what's a better value than a free lift ticket?" Rich Moorhead, Monarch chief executive officer, said in a press release.

"This past summer we invested in a new rental shop and ski school learning center. This will be a good day to show off the new facilities."

The goal of the promotion area officials said, is to reward local skiers and snowboarders who don't have season passes and to attract people who have never been to the ski area.

Complimentary lift tickets will be available at Monarch ticket windows at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Ski area personnel request donation of a non-perishable food item as part of the promotion, but a donation isn't mandatory for a free ticket.

Donated food will be given to The Grainery, a local group providing food to needy families.
