Ice climbing techniques offered at CMC
Beginning ice climbing techniques will be taught Jan. 17-18 with a pre-climbing session Jan. 15 at the Colorado Mountain College Chaffee County Academic Center near Buena Vista.

Taught by Scott Egolf, the class is for people who have never climbed or want a refresher on basic safety and technique.

In addition to basic ice climbing, students will develop problem-solving skills and gain understanding of the principles of climbing - how equipment works, how it's used, safety, climbing terminology and etiquette.

Officials said location of the climb depends upon weather conditions, but Chalk Creek Falls near Leadville or Bedford Falls north of Buena Vista are probable climb sites.

More information and an updated list of non-credit classes and workshops is at www.cmcneverstoplearning.com and click on "classes."
