Salida varsity girls basketball team members won 52-38 against Peyton High School in Andreas Field House Friday, continuing the undefeated season to 4-0.
"This was one of our best performances against a strong team and a good way to go into Christmas break," Salida coach Randy Kapushion said.
Competition was nearly even through the first quarter which ended 13-12 in favor of the Panthers.
Spartans gained the advantage of an eight-point lead by half time. By the third quarter, Salida girls had a 10 point edge before ending with the 14 point difference.
Salida junior Sammi Gentile led the Spartans with 21 points including six field goals and nine of 16 free throws. She has a 62 percent season record for free throws.
"Sammi's one of the best ones in the Tri Peaks League and an all around good player," Kapushion said.
Salida sophomore Morgan Gentile picked up nine points and Mariah Granzella scored seven. Seven players scored during the game.
Salida junior varsity girls suffered a 54-47 loss in double overtime. The girls C-team won 35-14.
The game at Pagosa springs Saturday was postponed because of severe weather, but is rescheduled for Jan. 19. It was the second rescheduled game of the season.
The other weather caused postponement was against Centauri Dec. 16 which was reset for Jan. 20.
Kapushion expects the rescheduled games to add to an already busy January.
