Denver Post Ride the Rockies officials announced the June 15-21 bicycle ride route Sunday and it includes a June 20 stop in Buena Vista.
Other host communities for the ride include Cortez, Telluride, Montrose and Crested Butte.
Host communities will provide inexpensive community meals and entertainment. In previous years Salida has served as a host community.
Post-News Community programs of The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News will award financial grants to each host community.
During the past four years, 55 grants totaling more than $300,000 have been distributed.
About 4,000 bicyclists register annually for the tour, presented by Wells Fargo, and 2,000 are selected in a lottery registration.
Cyclists will begin their 435-mile journey June 15 in Durango and finish June 21 in Breckenridge.
On-site registration will be June 14 in Durango and there will be a rest day June 19 in Crested Butte.
The ride is a non-competitive event open to all ages. More than 100 volunteers assist during the week of the tour.
Climbs along the route include Lizard Head Pass, Dallas Divide, Cerro Summit, Blue Mesa Summit, Cottonwood Pass, Trout Creek Pass, and Hoosier Pass.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the 2008 route," tour director Chandler Smith said. "Cyclists will travel classic terrain from tours past and visit towns rich in Colorado history."
Cyclists can register online or submit a mail-in application. Registration forms and training information are available at www.ridetherockies.com.
Mail-in forms will be in The Denver Post Feb. 10, 15, 17 and 22. Registration cost is $335-355, depending upon whether or not the applicant wants a heather gray Ride the Rockies 2008 "In Training" T-shirt. The registration deadline will be Feb. 22.
