Lynn Kent, postmaster at the Salida Post Office, was named Postmaster of the Year April 30 by the Colorado Branch of the League of Postmasters.
Linda Eggleston, postmaster at Nathrop and the recipient last year, presented Kent her award at the annual league convention in Longmont.
"I have the chance to work with a great group of postmasters in my area and am grateful to them for giving me this honor," Kent said.
She was selected by her peers for her availability to the post office around the clock.
As postmaster, Kent oversees delivery of mail daily to outlying zip codes beginning with 812. Often, Kent works to ensure mail outside her area is also delivered.
Surrounding postmasters look to Kent when seeking functional or financial advice.
She began working for the United States Postal Service in 1983 in Palm Springs, Calif. Her career in Colorado started in Gunnison in 1998 as a carrier.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Salida," Kent said. "I have a wonderful group of employees.
Kent moved to Salida in 2005 and became postmaster later that year.
