Audrey Gilpin - Mail Staff Writer
Stephen Glover of Nathrop and residents living in the Chalk Creek area developed a Web site to "educate and advocate" people regarding geothermal possibilities near Mount Princeton.
Glover has been gathering data for the site, http://chaffeecountygeothermal.com/, for about six months.
He developed the site because of worry the proposed geothermal project would damage "the unique beauty of this area, its water and its quality of life, not to mention its recreational value to so many visitors."
The site includes links to documents explaining the split-estate law, Colorado water law, the binary process of converting energy to electricity and maps of the proposed geothermal lease area.
"The Web site is an opportunity for citizens to look at a complex issue and express their views," Glover said.
Jim Sample, Bureau of Land Management spokesperson, said the Colorado Department of Natural Resources deferred the planned auction to allow "review of how geothermal is being handled in this area."
Another auction is scheduled for Feb. 11, and written protest must be sent to the department of natural resources by 4 p.m. Jan. 27.
