Brenda Mosby, deputy Chaffee County assessor, was unanimously appointed Tuesday by county commissioners to assume duties as assessor upon retirement of Joann Boyd.
Boyd will retire in December. Her term in office will expire in January 2011.
Commissioners directed county attorney Jenny Davis to draft a resolution addressing the issue.
Commissioner Frank Holman said Mosby submitted a letter of interest in the job and added, "She does the job when Joann's gone. She's well versed."
After a public hearing regarding allocation of the 2010-11 Community Service Block Grant, commissioners agreed to use block grant money for emergency services.
Block grant coordinator Judy Gilkerson estimated $23,165 will be necessary, adding, "The need is changing. It's so much greater than it was."
Gilkerson said upper limit per client will be $700.
Allison Abdelnour, Guidestone president, updated commissioners regarding the land link initiative project. She asked them to consider donating $5,000 toward a grant to pair absentee landowners with aspiring farmers.
Abdelnour said letters pledging financial support are needed by Dec. 10. No action was taken.
Davis and board members clarified details of the Hargrove conservation easement loan.
Commissioners agreed the loan will be secured by a lien on the property, no interest will be charged and money borrowed will be repaid upon transaction closing.
The possibility of reducing size of the planning commission was discussed.
"I would not be in favor of that if current members are interested in applying," commissioner Tim Glenn said. Because of the absence of commissioner Dennis Giese, no decision was made.
Representatives of Chaffee County 4-H Council presented gift baskets to commissioners. Codi Miller and Katie Engelman said the baskets are in appreciation of support commissioners give 4-H clubs.
In other business, commissioners:
Tabled consideration of the Nestlé Waters' request for a license to install a pipeline through county property.
Extended the subdivision improvements agreement for Shining Mountain Rural Open Space incentive to November 2010 at the request of John Garretson and Laura Walters.
Released restriction of sales for Lot 1 in Knaur minor subdivision at the request of Michael Rand.
Appointed John Nahomenuk to the Chaffee County Heritage Advisory Board replacing Leah Quesenberry.
Received reports from the county emergency medical services director and county clerk.
