'Wolfman' Dave celebrates three years at KHEN radio

Three years ago "Wolfman" Dave Carty and "Redneck" Ed Belinsky never thought they'd be a part of a KHEN 106.9 FM radio show - or any other show.

But that changed when the radio station offered Carty an "opportunity most people never have a chance to do," Belinsky said.

Carty is a Starpoint consumer and Belinsky is a Starpoint support team member who works with him.

Belinsky said he was the only one to help Carty with the show when it started.

By day Carty works in Salida as part of the Starpoint park crew and he cleans at the Starpoint Center. He lets the wolf come out at 5 p.m. Wednesdays when he hosts his show, "Weather or Not."

During the show, Wolfman Dave is the host with Redneck Ed as sidekick and backup.

The half hour show is an eclectic mix of national and international weather reports, Nascar, National Football League, major league baseball and country and oldies music.

They report weather from distant places such as China and Australia.

Belinsky assists Wolfman Dave locating weather reports on the Internet or sometimes calling his father in Southbury, Conn., and father-in-law in Cobleski, N.Y.

"Dave is always anxious to do the radio show," Belinsky said. "I get a lot of pleasure helping guys like him."

Wolfman Dave said he enjoys the music and it's his favorite part of hosting the show. Mark Martin is his favorite Nascar driver and he has no favorite football or baseball team.

Belinsky said they would like to do call-ins but haven't learned to work the call-in phones.

The Mixing Bowl, another Starpoint supporter, sponsors the show.

During each show Wolfman Dave thanks U.S. military men and women abroad saying, "Freedom is not free."

He ends his weekly stint with, "Don't worry, be happy and good night."
