Swine influenza test results from the middle age woman visiting Salida from southern Mexico haven't been returned, Chaffee County Public Health Director Susan Ellis told The Mountain Mail Tuesday.
The woman was tested Saturday and the specimen went to Denver Monday morning.
Ellis said, "My understanding from a conference call Monday with (the state health department) is if a state test is positive it will be sent to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga."
There are only two Center for Disease Control laboratories doing second confirmation testing - Atlanta and one in Canada, Ellis said.
By Tuesday night, Chaffee County and Colorado had no confirmed swine flu cases.
Ellis explained it's important to understand "the flu we are seeing in the U.S. is similar to the usual seasonal flu with most cases being mild.
"There is antiviral medication available by prescription for treatment of the influenza virus."
The World Health Organization reports so far there have been 64 laboratory confirmed cases in the U.S., with no deaths.
