A search of lockers and automobile exteriors at Buena Vista High School Thursday by officers using drug detection dogs located no illegal substances.
The search was conducted by members of the Chaffee County Drug Task Force and two dogs from the Colorado Department of Corrections.
Lockers in the academic area and gymnasium were checked and dogs alerted on several lockers, Chaffee County Undersheriff Keith Pinkston said.
Upon searching the lockers, no drugs were found. He said, however the dogs are also trained to detect drug smoke on clothing.
Exteriors of vehicles in the student parking lot were also checked and nothing was found, Pinkston said.
"It was refreshing not to find any drugs," he said. "It was a smooth, low key operation."
School officials contacted the task force requesting help in response to complaints from parents regarding presence of drugs in and around the school, Pinkston said.
Three Colorado Department of Corrections officers, three Salida Police officers, one Buena Vista Police officer, six Chaffee County Sheriff's officers and one investigator from the district attorney's office participated.
