Early childhood thanks volunteers Dear Editor:
Chaffee County Early Childhood Council, Buena Vista and Salida school districts and Child Find sponsored countrywide screenings for infants and young children Aug. 23.
In Salida and Buena Vista, parents worked with professionals to explore areas where their children are excelling and areas where they may need some support.
Screenings included dental health, nutrition, height and weight, vision, hearing, communication skills and a variety of social and developmental factors. In addition, car seat safety evaluations were provided.
The no cost screenings were made possible with the help of many dedicated volunteers.
We express our gratitude to volunteers Marianne Wancura, Vicki Gorense, Donna Boria, Dionne Sanders, Lois Hansen, Melissa St. John, Tonda Avila, Bonnie Paul, Jirka, Christine and Maggie Myers, Melody Brood and Kassi Witty.
We also extend sincere appreciation to the following groups who organized and staffed the screenings.
They include Arkansas Valley District of Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children, Avery-Parsons Early Childhood Program, Chaffee County Public Health, Head Start, Starpoint and Strawberry Door.
Above all, we thank all the parents and children who participated.
The Chaffee County Early Childhood Council, Buena Vista and Salida school districts and Child Find intend to sponsor a similar countywide screening in the spring.
In the meantime, parents or caregivers who have concerns about their child's development can contact Child Find directors, Lyndsay Pulsipher, 395-7029 in Buena Vista, or Jim Allen, 530-5434 in Salida.
Child Find will schedule individual screenings as needed.
