A two-car crash resulted in two fatalities and closed U.S. 50 between Parkdale and Cañon City from about 4:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The crash occurred 5 miles west of Cañon City near the Skyline Drive entrance.

Colorado State Patrol Corporal Kris Galyean reported the investigation revealed a westbound 2003 BMW sedan drifted into a eastbound 2013 Dodge pickup, colliding head on. The BMW rotated clockwise and came to rest partially in the westbound lane.

The Dodge rotated counter clockwise, rolled over one complete time, came to rest off the eastbound shoulder, caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames until extinguished by the Cañon City Fire District.

Drivers of both vehicles died on scene. Families of the victims have not been notified.

No other occupants were in either vehicle, according to Colorado State Patrol.
