The annual FIBArk Pancake Breakfast takes place from 7 to 10 a.m. today at the Salida Community Center, 305 F St.
Breakfast includes fluffy pancakes (gluten free are available on request), Scanga sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice and a choice of specialty local coffees from Sacred Ground, Gathering Grounds, Safeway Starbucks, Caboose Coffee, Café Dawn, Brown Dog, Buena Vista Roastery and Little Red Hen.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids younger than 12.
The breakfast has been a FIBArk tradition for more than 40 years, but this year several new features have been added, among them the gluten-free pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, specialty coffees and toppings for the pancakes. Toppings include caramelized bananas, hot blueberry sauce, strawberry, pineapple, honey butter, hot syrup and sugar-free syrup.
The main cooks for the breakfast are Ken Brandon, Chris Gerbig and Jeff Yoast. Seating is available inside and out.
Children’s games begin at 8 a.m. with musical chairs, coffee sack races and a waffle toss. The KHEN chicken will also be present.
“Proceeds will help the Community Center’s programs, which include the ‘New Blinkers’ Student Eye Glass Program, Community Christmas Dinner and the annual Easter Egg Hunt,” said Wayne “Wano” Urbonas, breakfast coordinator. “With the student eyeglass program, any Salida student who needs glasses and can’t afford them can contact the Community Center for help at 719-539-3351.”
The Community Center thanked the Rotary Club of Salida for new grills purchased for this year’s event, Don Potts for all his help, Salida Circus for furnishing the mats for kids’ games and sponsors Walmart, McDonald’s, Safeway, Natural Grocers and Drunken Muffins.
