A shooting that took place at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tenn., at 3:30 a.m. Sunday has a connection to Salida.
Travis Reinking, accused of opening fire at the Waffle House, killing four people and injuring four others, was interviewed by Mountain Mail journalist Guinne Stropes in January 2017 for a “Word on the Street” column.
For the column Stropes asked several people in downtown Salida the question “What makes you happy?” Reinking’s answer was, “True love. Just because it’s the best thing that can happen in life.” He identified himself as being from Salida.
The Mountain Mail learned of the connection when contacted by WKRN News Director Elbert Tucker, who asked if the ABC affiliate in Nashville could use Stropes’ photo of Reinking.
The television station reported on its website that Reinking allegedly was naked except for a jacket when he shot two people outside the diner before going inside and opening fire.
The manhunt for Reinking continued as of 7 p.m. Sunday and involved police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Secret Service and Homeland Security.
