A Fairplay man died Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover crash, 8 miles north of Fairplay, which closed U.S. 285 for two hours, Colorado State Patrol Cpl. Kris Galyean said.
Christopher Gipp, 47, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban south on U.S. 285 where the highway curved to the left, when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the road.
Gipp attempted to steer back to the roadway, and the vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise before overturning, Galyean said.
The Suburban rolled completely over twice, ejecting Gipp during the rollover. It came to rest on its wheels on the southbound shoulder.
Gipp, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CSP is still investigating the crash, Galyean said.
