The Mountain Mail, Aug. 14, 1969:

The visitor in Salida this morning didn’t have to ask when fall arrives here in the high country.

One could feel it in the air, and it happened overnight. As one native remarked, “Fall arrives here just as summer does, in one fell swoop.”

Now, Mr. Tourist, we don’t want you to pack your bag and head home because of what we said here. We are not expecting snow right away.
