The Mountain Mail, April 15, 1969:
Chaffee County Clerk Jasper Cortese provided the program Monday for Salida Rotary Club. Cortese addressed the group on the new method of voting for Chaffee County (machines), redistricting of precincts and related items.
He told Rotarians of the plan now calling for eight voting precincts within the confines of the county. Three are in Salida with two being in Buena Vista and the remaining three covering the rural areas.
Cortese told Rotarians there were 145 people working at the election day. Under the new plan, there will be 35 people used.
The former cost came to $9,039 for the last election. It is estimated that the total cost of a countywide election using machines will be $4,200.
