Macaroni and cheese lovers will be able to taste a variety of offerings from Chaffee County cooks at Habitat for Humanity’s sixth annual Mac & Cheese Bake-off from 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 31 at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort pavilion, 15870 CR 162, Nathrop.
The bake-off, a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity presented by TBK Bank, features mac and cheese dishes to sample and vote on, a silent auction and music provided by a local disc jockey.
Salad and dessert will be provided, and a cash bar will be available.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Chaffee County Habitat’s mission of “building homes, communities and hope.”
Christian Brollier, a marketing and public relations intern working with Habitat this summer, is one of the organizers of the annual event.
He said the group hopes to do as well as last year, when the fundraiser pulled in about $10,000 for the organization.
The money stays 100 percent local, Brollier said, and is used for Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity projects.
He said they have already raised about $3,400 in sponsorships for this year’s bake-off.
Bake-off entries are in two categories: individual and restaurant.
Attendees will vote on their favorite dishes, and this year first-, second- and third-place awards will be given for winning recipes in both categories.
First place will receive a $100 gift card, second place will receive $50 and third $25.
Brollier said having three awards rather that just recognizing first place will provide more incentive for competitors in both categories.
Adult tickets for the event cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door; tickets for children ages 12 and younger cost $5.
Entry is free for all bakers.
The silent auction will close at 7:15 p.m., and the individual and restaurant category bake-off winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.
