Meals on Wheels

Meals are delivered Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in Salida and Buena Vista. Each lunch is served with milk. Most are served with bread and butter.

Congregate meals

The Upper Arkansas Area Agency on Aging Nutrition Program provides congregate meals with the same menus, served at noon Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Fourth and E streets, Salida. Call 539-3342 before 9:30 a.m. for congregate meal reservations. Cost for a meal is a voluntary contribution for seniors age 60 and older; people younger than 60 pay $11.

Community meals

Community meals are served at Salida Community Center, 305 F St., at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Suggested donation is $5 for people 60 and older or $7 for those younger than 60.

Transportation to the Episcopal Church and the Salida Community Center is available to senior citizens by Chaffee Shuttle; call 530-8980.

Tuesday:

Episcopal Church of the Ascension: Beef stew, steamed cauliflower, tossed salad with light ranch dressing, banana and cornbread.

Salida Community Center: Fried chicken, potatoes, cream gravy, salad and dessert.

Thursday:

Episcopal Church of the Ascension: Lemon baked fish, tartar sauce and lemon, rice pilaf, creamy coleslaw, green beans and mushrooms, apple and whole wheat bread.

Salida Community Center: Pork loin, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad and dessert.

Friday:

Episcopal Church of the Ascension: Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with provolone cheese and mustard, sliced tomato on lettuce, Waldorf salad and an orange.

Salida Community Center: Brats, sauerkraut, salad, vegetable and dessert.

Longfellow Elementary School


Monday: Mac and cheese and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Tuesday: Fajitas and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Wednesday: Sloppy joes and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Thursday: Shepherd’s pie and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Salida Middle School:


Monday: Pasta with meat sauce and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Tuesday: Hamburger, french fries and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Wednesday: Pizza and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Thursday: Broccoli soup, grilled cheese and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Salida High School


Monday: Southwest tater tot casserole, dinner roll and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Tuesday: Chicken enchilada bake and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Wednesday: Hamburger, three-bean salad and fresh fruit and salad bar.

Thursday: Pork dinner, mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh fruit and salad bar.
