Daniel Majok Gai of Project Education Sudan will offer several free presentations about the new Sudan from Jan. 27-30 in Salida.

At 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27, the film "God Grew Tired of Us," a History of the Lost Boys of Sudan, will be screened in John Held Auditorium at Salida High School.

At 3 p.m. Jan. 29, the group will give a presentation at Salida Community Center.

Presenters will offer programs at local schools throughout Jan. 30. At 8 a.m. they will be at Salida High School, Crest Acadamy at 10 a.m. and Montessori School at 11 a.m.

Gai will be accompanied by his brother Bol and education director Carol Rinehart.

Gai recently returned from a year in Sudan where he was sponsored by Project Education Sudan in leadership training for the newest country in the world.

He was 6 years old when he escaped attacks on his village and began the 1,000-mile trek to refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya.

As a "Lost Boy of Sudan," he was among 20,000 who fled southern Sudan during its civil war from 1983-2005. More than half the youths died along the way.
