Jack and Clara Shaw of Salida will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary April 16, 2017.

Jack Shaw and the former Clara Tiferis met in 1953 at the Presidio in San Francisco, Calif., just after he left military service.

Mr. Shaw was originally from Pottville, Pa., and is one of 19 children, 14 of whom are still living.

Mrs. Shaw originally came from Shanghai, China, and was an only child.

Mr. Shaw accepted a job with Foster Lumber Co. in eastern Colorado and was transferred to Saratoga, Wyo., where the couple was mar- ried. Friends Art and Donna Zedeiger stood up for them.

Mr. Shaw was transferred to Salida in 1959.

Mrs. Shaw worked for Wallace and Harold Koster for several years, retiring in the late 1980s.

Mr. Shaw worked at Climax Molybdenum Mine until 1982 when the mine was closing.

The couple has three children, Patrick Shaw, Bill (Margie) Shaw of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Shaw of Billings, Mont.; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren with another on the way.

During 2002-2003 Mr. Shaw was Colorado state president of the Elks, and in that role the couple enjoyed traveling throughout Colorado. Salida Elks Lodge No. 808 has been a major part of both their lives.

The Shaws plan a quiet celebration.
