Chuck and Jo Surface

Chuck and Jo Surface of Salida will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 5, 2017.

The couple met in 1967 in Salida and were married at the Four Square Church on D Street. They celebrated with a reception at the Salida Scout Hut.

The Surfaces spent more than 20 years serving their country while raising two children. Chuck retired as an officer from the U.S. Army in 1995 and went to work with Tanana Chiefs Conference in Fairbanks, Alaska, as the training center director.

Jo worked for the federal government for 22 years, retiring in 2000.

Together they traveled Europe while stationed in Germany and enjoyed living, hunting and fishing in Alaska.

In 2000, the Surfaces made their way back to their hometown of Salida, where they have been pastoring the Upper Room Church for 17 years.
